Insense Ltd (UK) is a biotechnology company developing a range of medical and personal care products. The company was a spin-out from Unilever. Shareholders include Unilever Ventures, Stewart Newton and Oxford Technology VCT.

Several exciting new technologies have been developed by Insense Ltd, and we have extensive patent protection. Technologies we have developed have been applied in several areas which include Active Wound Care and Protein Stabilisation (which is now being applied in a spin out company).

- Active Wound Care

An advanced, enzyme-activated hydrogel wound care system that is now available in Europe. The Oxyzyme and Iodozyme products are available through ARCHIMED, our Wound Care Division. OXYZYME™ is for non-infected wounds. IODOZYME™ is for infected wounds. In clinical studies with chronic wounds, nearly 80% show healing or clinical improvement with these dressings.

- Protein Stabilisation

Discovered during the development of Oxyzyme, our unique protein stabilisation technology was spun out into a new company, ARECOR LTD, in 2007. Arecor collaborates with pharmaceutical and biotech companies who are developing recombinant proteins and vaccines for application in drugs, medical devices or diagnostics. Arecor has developed Arestat™, a smart stabilisation technology, which enables the formulation of labile proteins and vaccines as stable aqueous or dry preparations even at high concentrations or in the presence of ionizing radiation. As a simple reformulation, the technology can be readily integrated into existing manufacturing processes. Arestat™ does not involve the covalent modification of biologics and uses only GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) excipients approved by relevant regulatory authorities. Arestat™ has a proven track record and has been incorporated into Class 3 medical devices (Oxyzyme™ and Iodozyme™ - see Archimed Ltd) which are approved in the EU and Canada. 

Insense Ltd is now developing a new range of technologies for treatment of skin and nail conditions appropriate to professional dermatology and consumer topical care..
